15/11/  · This works best with Ilford HP5 and Kodak Tri-X but basically with any 400 speed black and white film. Above are a few samples of 400 ISO film being pushed to 1600. The idea behind pushing is to be able to shoot at a 1600 ISO but without having to use 1600 speed film.

When I started shooting film, I experimented a little bit with Ilford HP5+ at different speeds: 400 (box speed), 800 (1 stop push), 1600 (2 stops push) and even 3200 (3 stops push). 9/9/  · The last time I pushed Ilford HP5+ 400 to 1600 was back in January 2020. The images came out ok, but my mistake was that I didn't rate or overexpose the film, and I had set it to 1600, where I should have rated the film to 800.

If you're just starting out I'd stick to the rated ISO - pushing/pulling films is to me a slightly more advanced technique. I prefer Ilford 

12/9/2022 · HP5 Plus pushed to 1600 is gorgeous. You might remember the times I’ve taken Kodak T-Max P3200 to Chicago for some night photography. I think HP5 Plus at 1600 looks leagues better than P3200 at 3200. I plan to take HP5 Plus on my next trip to Chicago and see how it handles the night. If you want some details in shadows though, I believe that EI 800 is optimal for push processing.

16/7/  · Probably my favorite way to shoot Ilford HP5 Plus is to shoot it and develop it at 800. It gives you a wider range of blacks, whites, and grays, and your images have more contrast

HP5 @ 1600 in DD-X is quite nice. Still, my first choice would be to push HP5 in XTOL, which will give you better shadows (but more grain). Since you're shooting 4x5, I don't think grain is too much of a concern. I've never used Microphen, though I imagine the results would be somewhere between DD-X and XTOL.

Pushing it two stops (shooting and developing at 1600) intensifies the contrast and grain even more. Ilford HP5 Plus is rated to shoot between ISO 200 and 3200, but it will show the best results between ISO 320 and 1600. This film shows remarkable results even at higher ISO values, but the further HP5 is pushed, the more grain and contrast it'll show. When overexposed, HP5 negatives will have greater density, finer grain, and less contrast.

Aye, you definitely want DDX. Ilford themselves say that Ilfosol-S should be used with Pan F, FP4+ and Delta 100 only for best results. I've
